This post has been contributed by Diana Smith Upper back pain is one of the common problems for people today, both men and women. The causes for this issue can be various and the usual one is improper posture. Not keeping the body and head straight due to a lot of time spent in front of a computer, heavy bags on one side, etc. can become very painful in the upper body and neck area. Apart from this ‘modern world’ problem, women with a large bust can experience the pain in their back and shoulders due to the size of their chest. Large backs and posture Having large breasts has always been considered a desirable physical characteristic but not everything is great in this department. Very large breasts are also heavy and they can put pressure and strain on the spine and shoulders, pulling them to the unnatural direction and bending the posture. This leads to serious upper back pain and general troubles with physical activity. Still, there are ways to minimize if not completely stop this limiting pain from occurring. Special supporting bras Wearing a sports bra or specially designed one and even a back brace can help with keeping the body in straight position while supporting the breasts nicely which can lower the amount of pain in the upper back, neck and shoulders. These types of bras are very useful especially for women of smaller build who need a lot of balancing between their narrow back and big bust. These body and breast supporters are recommended with all stages and means of upper back pain treatments. Exercise and therapy Physical therapy and regular exercising can help a lot when it comes to alleviating upper and lower back sore. With constant workout muscles become more elastic and the body stronger to deal with the additional weight in the chest area. Still, all exercises and therapy should be done according to a professional therapist’s advice and even with supervision so that some unnecessary movements and positions do not damage the posture even more and cause additional pain. Using meds to stop the pain Using different kinds of pain relieving meds can be helpful when sudden strikes of pain become intolerable for normal daily activities but these are not permanent solutions in any way. Taking some readily available painkillers that can be bought without doctor’s prescription can ease the pain at that moment but that is basically it. The problem will continue to exist. On the other hand, taking some heavy duty meds that can block the pain is not a good long-term solution because these can damage other aspects of health. It is best to consult the doctor and therapist before deciding what kind of medication is the right one for you, even if it can be bought over the counter. Breast reduction surgery The only completely permanent way to get rid of upper back pain caused by big bust is breast reduction surgery. Some women accept this procedure easily while others find it too drastic to go through which is perfectly fine. The patient is always the one to decide what to do with her own body. Still, the results of American Society of Plastic Surgeons research showed that 90% of women who had breast reduction stopped having these annoying upper back pain symptoms. Basically, if you are experiencing upper back pain, stiff shoulders and sore neck and suspect that it is all because of the size of your breasts, talk to the doctor as soon as possible and discuss all possible ways to reduce this ache in order to ensure better quality of life for yourself.
