The more we think about similarities between our dogs and ourselves, the more we realize that we're not that different. We're both affectionate beings and show that very clearly when we interact with one another at different times, we both love a tasty meal that satisfies our taste buds and keeps us coming back for more, and we can both have our fair share of devastating effects on the environment and Mother Earth at times.

Now sure, I know what you're thinking "how in the world can an innocent dog be harming the environment?".

And that's true, it's actually not the responsibility of the dog as much as it is the responsibility of their owner to be aware of anything their dog is doing that's harming the environment or any dog-related practices the owner is taking part in that also may be harming the environment, since dogs obviously can't make informed decisions on their own like we do.

So it's up to us, as responsible dog owners, to get educated on the issue and take any necessary steps we can to limit these negative effects.

Seeing that Earth Day is upon us, just as the case is on April 22 of every year, the topic of today's post is going to be about tips all dog owners can implement to be kind individuals to the environment around them, no matter where they are in the world.

Now now, before you go clicking off this page because you think to yourself "I can never go through all that effort, I'm busy already as it is!" - worry not, as you only have to be careful about a couple of things here and there and you'll already be 90% ahead of everyone else.

So have a look at the infographic I've shared with you below, see what steps you can start implementing right now, compose a plan to start implementing the other steps as you go, and share it with a friend so we can all become more responsible dog owners this Earth Day!

We all love dogs. They are a perfect companion. Dogs are even better in raising children. Kids will surely love dogs as much as you do, or even more.

With the presence of dogs at home, kids learn how to build relationships. Even if there are no other kids at home, they can practice building friendship, which is essential later as they start schooling. The best part about having dogs as companions is that they ask for nothing in return.

They love playing around and they are also fun to be with. Unlike human friends though, dogs know how to love unconditionally. This is a perfect example for kids so they will also do the same thing when they grow older.

Another benefit is that dogs are good listeners. There is a tendency for some kids to feel invisible at school. They can’t easily make friends. They also have a hard time finding common interest with other kids in school.

By the time they reach home, they can just talk to their dog and everything will be fine again. They can share their personal problems and feel better after releasing their sentiments. Sometimes, kids have a difficulty of expressing their emotions. With a dog at home, they are able to say their feelings better.

Below is an infographic containing the information to convince you more that having dogs at home, is indeed a good thing for your kids. This is why when your kids start asking for a puppy, don’t deny that request.

You may not know it, but your pet dog actually makes you healthier. For you, they are just pets that you have to feed, play with and walk around with. During the process, they have already helped you stay healthier.

Dogs are not just your best friends. Dogs can also be your fitness buddies. Take note that when you have a dog, you have to walk it to stay healthy. You can go to the park to play every now and then. You think that you are doing it for your pet, but you are also doing it for yourself.

The moment you start playing with your dog, you also do some physical activities. For sure, you don’t have a lot of time in your hands to stay physically active. Since you have a dog, you have no choice but to go outside and play.

You also become psychologically healthy when you have a pet dog. It makes you happy. Imagine going home from a stressful day at work. On your way home, you are filled with problems and you don’t know how to solve them.

The moment you see your dogs barking at you and licking your face as soon as you arrive, you feel better. You may not notice it, but they keep you mentally healthy. Without a dog at home, you will keep thinking of your problems and dwell on them until you sleep.

This is why you need to have a dog at home. Below is an infographic that compiles the benefits of having a dog to your health. You think that you are the one taking good care of the pet. In the process, you are the one being taken care of. This mutual relationship is something that you need in your life right now.

Can Dogs Eat Bananas? 10 Toxic Foods, 23 Safe Ones & A Few in the Middle

In many ways, dogs are just like human beings. This is true when it comes to food. Dogs can be as sensitive as humans with the kind of food they take. It can even be worse for dogs. They might have more allergies than you even it if seems like they can lick anything they see.

This only means that you have to be careful with whatever you put into your dog’s mouth. You don’t want to put your beloved animal at risk just because you are lazy to identify what is allowed and what is not.

Bananas for instance are usually thought of as unhealthy for pets. The truth is that they are perfect. This is true along with rice and carrots. They are totally safe. Not all fruits and vegetables have the same properties though. Some are deemed really bad for pets.

Walnuts and grapes are the best examples. They are seemingly innocent fruits and are really tasty. For dogs, they are poison. They might keep vomiting upon eating these fruits. If you are a huge fan of chocolates, your dog definitely should not. You have to make sure that you stay away from your dog when eating chocolates.

This only means that you have to double check whatever it is that goes into your pet’s mouth. You want to understand first the properties of these foods so you won’t have to keep seeing the vet.

To make it easier for you, we have compiled an infographic below. This categorizes foods depending on their safety as food for pets. The ones on top are considered totally safe. The ones on the bottom are to be avoided. Hopefully, this helps you in taking care of your pet.
