Do our products need to be certified organic? An interesting take on the different certified organic labels out there.
Aromababy was the worlds first natural and organic baby skin care range, created 20 years ago! Over the past few months I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to try a few of their products.
Australian made, all natural, certified organic skincare designed for babies and mums, or even if you’re not a mum, these products are so gentle on the skin, you might want to use them too, as I did.
Founder Catherine Cerbvasio has personally hand picked each ingredient, making sure that only the most gentle and safe ingredients are used. Particularly good for babies with sensitive skin who are prone to eczema.
Select products contain pure, essential oils to soothe and calm whilst others for super-sensitive skin contain no essential oils, as suggested by some baby health experts.
The products which contain essential oils have a subtle natural scent, enough of a fragrance to feel nice, yet not overpowering. Some 'natural' products have a scent that is too strong and as soon as I open some I feel I wouldn't want to try it on my nephew's sensitive skin, but these products were different.
I love the gorgeous packaging with the cute little cherub baby and swan. The products look nice displayed in the bathroom and the packaging has a 'pure' feel about it.
A gentle and high quality range.
Pure Baby Moisture Cream is designed for newborns, but can also be used on toddlers and adults. It doesn't contain essential oils or aroma.
Nice and non-greasy, no artificial fragrances, keeps skin moist in dry weather, good for excema, dry skin and sensitive skin. It has a nice light texture and absorbs easily.
The gentle properties of sweet almond oil and pure rosehip oil help keep babies skin really smooth and keeps dry flaky skin at bay.
Baby Bath Gel is pure, gentle and sulphate free. It contains the lovely calm essential oils of french lavender and german chamomile.
I poured this under running tap water while the bath tub was filling to make a relaxing soak.
Can be used to wash babies hair as well. Fragrance is very natural. Works well on toddlers sensitive skin which is prone to eczema.
It left toddlers skin feeling very soft and never had a bad reaction using this. You only need a small amount for baby to feel clean and fresh.
Barrier Balm contains natural oils to soothe delicate skin and prevents nappy rash. With calendula, evening primrose, sweet almond oil and vitamin E. Can be used on dry skin, scalp and lips.
It contains the healing essential oils of Rose, Neroli German Chamomile and Roman Chamomile. The aroma is beautiful and relaxing.
Easy to spread on baby’s bottom, it’s a clear balm, not a thick uncomfortable looking cream.
Can also be used as a healing balm and I tend to spread it on my fingers and cuticles at the same time to soften them up and protect them. Provides a light barrier. Also moisturises. It's contained in a convenient small jar which is the perfect size to fit in a nappy bag.
Aromabath powder is a very soothing and subtle bath powder made with organic lavender flowers, rose petals and essential oils. It is milk free, which I really like, as I'm not keen on the idea of dry milk in baby bath products. It contains oatmeal to soothe delicate skin and leave it feeling beautiful and soft. I really like this powder, it’s very gentle on sensitive skin and seems to calm down and relieve itchy bites and stings. Also nice for mum to use as a soothing foot soak followed with barrier balm on heels. Comes in a very large jar, which means there is more for mum to pamper herself with or to have a bath with baby together. It also comes with a muslin bag which you can place the powder in and let it soak in the bath and squeeze occasionally to slowly release the powder.
Mother and child massage oil was developed in consultation with members of various infant massage associations in Australia. This gentle massage oil contains natural vitamin E, calendula, evening primrose oil and sweet almond oil. Can be used in the bath or rubbed gently on to babies skin. Non-greasy, light and absorbs easily, helping to heal toddlers dry skin. Mums can also use this to soothe sore nipples and as an all over massage oil. It also feels really nice to apply it to tops of hands regularly, this would be good for mums with dry hands.
A safe and effective massage oil during pregnancy.
Available at Aromababy.
I love 70's style makeup, if you can do it organic, even better!
Love System - Australian Bush Flower Essences - soothing firming eye neck face gel - calm & clear - Review
Love System, which is one of my favourite unique organic skin care lines, was created by Paul Loveday, he spent 7 years developing these naturopathic inspired skin care formulations which contains the amazing properties of Australian bush flowers.
The energies contained in the flower remedies are designed to nurture and care for your skin and your inner self.
This treatment is a soothing and firming neck and face gel which contains beautiful healing ingredients. One of the main ingredients is rose stem cells, which help skin repair and regenerate. Research on rose stem cells have shown to have very promising results in anti-aging products.
I have searched for a long time to find an organic neck and face gel, as I love the feeling of a gel. This is the only organic face gel I have found which has the ability to heal my skin and contains so many nourishing natural ingredients. It absorbs very rapidly and leaves my skin feeling replenished without leaving any oily residue. This is different to using a moisturiser as I could feel a tightening effect on my face and neck after I applied it. It sinks into my skin but doesn’t make it feel dry.
I am worried about ageing lines on my neck and chest, this is an area which I really try to keep hydrated at all times. Being a lover of the beach I know I probably spend too much time in the sun, so I also used this as an after sun moisturiser. I like the cooling sensation of a gel, so I place this in the fridge to make it feel even more nourishing to my skin. Try smoothing the cool gel onto your face and you will see what I mean!
I feel as though this gel moisturisers and tightens at the same time. It helped to make my skin feel soft
and lines seemed smoother.
I used it all over my face, neck and chest. The scent is natural, light and calming. A very earthy and grounding scent.
Some of the other ingredients are the healing bush flower essences Black-eyed Susan, Boronia, Bottle Brush, Bush Fuchsia, Crowes, Jacaranda, Little Flannel Flower, Paw Paw and She Oak.
What I appreciate about the Love System is the products are created to treat your body, mind and health. I can see that many years of research have gone into creating them using carefully chosen ingredients.

Kelapa Organics are an Australian Owned Company who provide premium organic and natural skin care.
I say ‘premium’ because I have been lucky enough to try 3 of Kelapas products and found them to be of a very high quality. They are Australian Certified Organic, do not contain any harsh chemicals and feel quite luxurious to use!
Kelapa Coconut and Vanilla Body Wash
This a gentle and uplifting body wash infused with some of my favourite ingredients.
Made with coconut oil and aloe vera juice, which makes it very nourishing to my skin, also combined with the calming scents of sandalwood, bitter orange extract and vanilla. The combination of these oils are wonderful for stress relief. The scent is subdued, very natural and has a relaxing effect.
The texture is a gel which glides on softly and smoothly and cleanses my skin of all impurities. The natural properties of the essential oils also helps to prevent break outs. I had clear skin the entire time I've been using this. The gel works up to a nice lather and it seems to be lasting me for a very long time, so is economical as well.
Kelapa SPF 15 Face Moisturiser
I love using this face moisturiser. I’ve been using it every morning, I apply it to my face just after showering and it’s proven itself to be a great base under my make-up. Another big plus for me is the natural spf 15, which is so important in this harsh climate, even if you’re spending a tiny amount of time outdoors, it should always be part of your daily moisturiser. The spf 15 is made from zinc oxide.
The texture is non-greasy, has a natural light fragrance of Bitter Orange, Lavender, Sandalwood and Rosemary, another really effective aromatherapy combination for uplifting your spirits and keeping impurities at bay.
The coconut oil, aloe vera juice, rose hip extract and vitamin C help to keep my skin feeling soft and smoothing out wrinkles. I always applied this to my chest area, as I want to keep my décolletage looking and feeling young!
Another favourite ingredient of mine is jojoba oil, which is well known for it's benefits in balancing the skin, it helps skin retain moisture and I love the texture of it. The ingredients in this moisturiser give it the perfect consistency, not too heavy and not too light and keeps my skin hydrated throughout the day.
Kelapa Organic Night Cream
A luxurious moisturiser. This night cream has a velvety smooth texture and melts into my skin easily.
Filled with the benefits of bitter orange oil, which controls over active oils in the skin without stripping it of the natural oils that you need. It’s a very good oil for balancing skin and helping maintain a clear complexion. Vanilla soothes and calms skin and lavender has powerful antioxidants.
Along with Aloe Vera juice, Coconut Oil and Vitamin E, I found this cream to be very nourishing, with a rich, lavish feel to it. At the same time, not being too heavy for my combination skin.
Kelapa Organics are of a very high quality at an affordable price. The packaging of the bottles and jars is a stylish white, silver and ocean blue. A great range of organic products to add to your natural beauty routine. You can visit the Kelapa Organics store here.
Scent of Byron is an all natural skin care range, using 100 percent pure, organic essential oils. The skin care range is designed for men and women and captures the natural beauty and feel of beautiful Byron Bay.
I was so lucky to receive three of Scent of Byron products to try and I have to say I loved them. They have a high quality and natural Bohemian feel.
AFTER SUN HYDRATING SKIN TONER
The After Sun Hydrating Skin Toner is a spray mist toner designed for after sun use. It contains a beautiful blend of antioxidant rich essential oils, the scent is earthy and uplifting. I love Neroli oil and the effects it has, not only on my skin, but my mind. Neroli oil helps to make skin smooth, has natural antiseptic properties and invigorates the senses. The other main ingredients are Rose Water and Aloe Vera extract. Aloe Vera is one of the best remedies for sunburn, it reduces pain and swelling and replenishes moisture. Rose Water soothes and cools irritated skin and has a light fresh scent.
The way I use this for after sun care is to place it in the fridge, when I return from the beach after too much sun, the spray gives me an instant cooling and healing effect.
I used the spray not only after the beach, but also after I showered on most days. It melted into my skin and didn't leave any oily residue behind. A spritz on my face when I was feeling fatigued also made me feel really refreshed.
As I live near the beach, I now use this spray instead of plain aloe vera gel for treating my skin to after sun care.
Soul oil is a exquisite blend of organic essential oils including Organic Rosehip and Egyptian Geranium Oil, blended with Spanish Almond Oil and Moroccan Argan Oil, making this an exceptionally exotic and nourishing oil for your skin.
The Bulgarian Rose Absolute makes this soul oil smell divine.
The earthy boho scent is so relaxing and calming. I can imagine myself on the beaches of Byron or visiting quaint Byron stores when I use this oil.
The texture of the oil is light and smooth and blends in very easily to my skin, I used the oil every morning and night. As a moisturiser, it worked very well as a base under make-up. In the evening I also used it to remove any residue of eye makeup under my eyes, removing any 'panda eye' mascara and smoothing the delicate under-eye skin area.
A really beautiful product to keep skin moisturised and soft, great for after sun use, but also fantastic for every day use. Can be used all of over your body, I found it made a big difference to keeping my chest and neck area supple and smooth.
I gave this interesting Beard Oil to a male friend to test out who does have a full on beard.
The mere fact that your beard will smell like cedar wood and citrus is enough reason alone to use this oil, but reports back from my friend also say that this made his beard a lot more soft and easy to manage. I also tested the oil out on my legs after shaving and it left my skin feeling as smooth as a silk.
Some of the ingredients are Australian Mandarin Oil, Spanish Almond Oil and South American Jojoba Oil. It will help with acne under your beard and ‘beard itch’, will keep your beard looking and feeling smooth and manageable and will keep the skin underneath your beard hydrated.
The packaging on all Scent of Byron products is beautiful and natural with dark amber glass bottles and calming colours.
The Scent of Byron collection will make anyone who uses it feel like they are treating their skin and their soul with the extra special nourishment it deserves.
All ingredients are derived from nature, no nasty preservatives, vegan and cruelty free.
You can visit the Scent of Byron store here.
Alot of information is out there now on preservatives we don't want in our beauty products, but not alot about natural preservatives. This article lists a few we should be wanting in our products.

Organic Sun Ripened Citrus is the beautiful refreshing scent you will notice radiating from this Uplifting Body Lotion. It is a light, natural citrus scent which is perfect for starting your day off with a positive feeling. It is fresh, clean and uplifting, but at the same time really gentle on the senses.

It has been a long time since the first beauty salons were opened. The first documented establishments of this kind started appearing at the turn of 19th century. As the time passed by, it became an enormous industry, that combines all the products and services that help us stay fit, rejuvenated and fresh. Whether you like it or not, the idea of beauty has been incorporated in all the aspects of our society. It became an enormous industry that includes hair and nails care, body care and fitness as well as plastic surgeries. To be honest, some of these services and procedures are needed in order to alleviate the daily stress. The rest just might be a passing fab. When we talk about city of Toronto, there is one place that does it better than its competition. This is Uptown Spa and Salon, place that helps you feel good.
The salon is positioned in one of the commercial building in York Mills Road, in North York. This is a great place for shopping and services, one of them being of course a beauty spa and salon. As many parts of Toronto, it is easily accessible by public transport and it has a lot of parking space around it.
As soon as you enter this place, you are welcomed with friendly smiles. The staff surely knows how to make a first impression. As you go to the room for a treatment, you can notice that the space was recently decorated. The walls are white and gray, making them official but not too dull. As many service companies, it always comes down to service itself. Or if you want to rephrase it, what you are getting for your money. The employees are really pleasant and they are doing their best to assist you in any way possible. They are not only doing their job, but at the same time they are giving you advices how to take care of your body. This represents a full service in every possible sense.
The services which this salon is providing are numerous. They can take care of your hair, nails, face, body, skin. Whether you need a hair extension or microdermabrasion, this is the place for you. Similarly like the space, the equipment is also brand new. The products are top notch, usually the latest and the best in its respective field. For those who like multiple services that this salon is providing, there is always an option of taking Beautiful Bundles. These combinations of treatments provide you a discount in comparison to multiple individual services.
Individuals are often judgmental. They like to pin attributes to people that they know. Usually, the first impression depends on the look. When you like a person or not, is usually based on his appearance. Many things in our lives are subjected to our perception of beauty. If you wish to feel good and desirable, visit Uptown Spa and Salon. They will make you feel like a movie star.
Australians spend over $8 billion on skincare products every year, but when it comes to achieving a truly flawless complexion, it’s vital to nourish your skin from the inside.
According to Sheila Zhou, expert Scientist at USANA, leading producer of high quality supplements, “Most people don’t realise diet is a major factor when it comes to having healthy skin. Older cells are constantly shedding and being replaced by new ones, meaning nutrients and hydration is essential to support this fast paced growth process. By consuming the correct foods, paired with a regular skin care routine, you can count on being blemish free.”
Ms. Zhou shares her expert tips on which foods will help you achieve flawless skin:
1. Chocolate. It sounds too good to be true doesn’t it?! Many of us have grown up believing chocolate causes break outs, but it actually contains numerous minerals such as calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium which are great for your skin. Also, chocolates rich in flavanols provides dietary antioxidants that confer photo-protection from within, and helps keep everything plump and elasticised.
2. Turkey. Turkey meat has a high level of an ingredient called selenium, a mineral that plays a major role in the health of developing skin cells. Recent studies also show selenium has the ability to prevent sunburned cells from forming on human skin. So make this meat more than a Christmas classic, and enjoy the benefits all year around.
3. Sweet potato. When it comes to vegetables that banish blemishes, sweet potato is the ultimate choice. It is loaded with retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, and this particular ingredient works to speed up the cell renewal process. Not only does this act as a natural exfoliate, but it also nourishes the skin underneath, a win win!
4. Sardines. Whether they’re fresh or canned, sardines are a great way to prevent age spots and wrinkles. This particular fish is loaded with anti-inflammatory omega-3 essential fatty acids and iron which help the body transport oxygen to skin follicles.
5. Spinach. Green vegetables are known for their health benefits, but what most people don’t know, is that spinach may help to reduce the risk of skin cancer. As it is rich in folate, vitamin A, C, E, and carotenoids, spinach may help boost the skin's natural defence against damage caused by UV rays, helps with DNA repair and cell regeneration. So make sure you slip, slop, slap, and spinach.
Along with these foods, Sheila Zhou, USANA Scientist, also recommends the following products to help your skin look and feel its best:
USANA’s Rice Bran Polisher is a gentle exfoliate that contains natural fruit enzymes, beta-hydroxy acid, and rice-bran beads. It removes impurities and dead skin cells while aloe and other natural emollients nourish and refresh, leaving skin smoother and clearer.
USANA’s Gentle Daily Cleanser is a soap-free cleanser to eliminate dirt and impurities without drying your delicate facial skin. A unique formulation of pure-plant extracts deeply cleanses and hydrates the skin, leaving it moist and supple. This refreshing gel is a great way to revive your complexion at the beginning and end of each day.
USANA’s Proflavanol C100 supplements help nourish your skin from within to protect and defence against cellular skin damage and assists with firmness and elasticity. The antioxidant formulation combines grape seed extracts and vitamin C to help maintain healthy skin and improve skin-aging appearance.
Vitamin supplements should not replace a balanced diet. Use only as directed. Always read the label.
