5 Nutrients for Healthy Skin (INFOGRAPHIC)

4/21/2016

It might surprise you that what we consume is just as important as the products we use when it comes to keeping our skin healthy.  It’s important to get the nourishing nutrients we need in order to look our best.

So, what foods can help keep our skin healthy?

  1.  Eat foods rich in Vitamin A.  This vitamin is important for overall skin health.  Foods rich in vitamin A are carrots and low-fat dairy products.
  2. To help prevent age related issues caused by sun exposure, make sure you get plenty of Lycopene in your diet.  Eat plenty of tomatoes, guava, and watermelon!
  3. Omega-3 Fatty Acids help nourish the skin and regulate oil production.  Fish, flax seeds, and eggs are all examples of foods high in Omega-3s.
  4. Vitamin C. This vitamin can helps fight wrinkles.  Foods rich in Vitamin C are sweet potatoes, squash, melons, and citrus fruits.
  5. Vitamin E helps repair damaged cells.  Get the benefits by eating nuts and seeds.

It’s also very important to have a healthy digestive tract to keep your skin looking great.  These are some additional nutrients you should include in your diet to help keep your gut and skin healthy:

Fiber – Foods rich in fiber will help your digestive system remove waste.
Probiotics – These healthy bacteria will help balance your digestive tract
Digestive Enzymes – These can assist in helping you get as much nutrition from the foods you eat as you can.  Look for a quality digestive enzyme.

I hope you learned something new from these tips.  Check out our infographic below that illustrates the importance of nutrition and gut health for skin!  For more information on health and wellness, feel free to visit us at our blog, What’s Up, USANA?.

How White Wine Can Help Cleanse Your Skin

4/9/2016

This post has been contributed by Diana Smith.

Many enjoy a glass of white wine here and there, and it can be a good way to make sure that you are protecting your body from the inside. However, you can help your skin in several of ways by using white wine facials. Whether you enjoy a nice long vinotherapy session at home or go seek a professional, your skin will be thankful.
Picture
Red Wine vs White Wine

In essence you can use either variation as a cleanser and toner, and you can even have a glass of wine to go with the process. Wine, in general, contains many antioxidants which will help repair and prevent your cells from being damaged further. Moreover, some of the ingredients, present in both wine types, can help iron out wrinkles and make your face seem younger. Furthermore, wine is known to have anti-aging characteristics as well, meaning that it will be a great asset in making sure you look younger once more.

Create a Spa Day for Yourself

The good thing about white wine facials is that you can easily make them at home, meaning that you can pamper yourself and create a fantastic evening of enjoyment and relaxation. Finding a good recipe will be crucial though, which is why you should look into how you can make a wrinkle and anti-aging facial mask to help you out. On the other hand, do not just blindly mix together ingredients, as you will have to make sure you understand your skin’s complexion and what some of the elements can do to it. Make sure to take your time to be able to thoroughly enjoy yourself, and to finally relax.

Long Term Effects

Unfortunately, in the short term, you will not notice a lot of things changing, which is why you need to be patient and keep applying the facial mask whenever possible. Think about the near future, and how it can help smooth out your skin, and give you a lasting glow that can make others feel jealous. Then again, be mindful how many times you apply a facial mask, as it could damage your skin if you are not careful enough. After all, you are playing with potent ingredients which if mixed right could do wonders, but, on the other hand, they could be dangerous.
Mind Your Wine Selection

You should be picky with your wine, and try to get the best of the best, if you do not want to have poor quality results in the end. Moreover, try to find a good store which will be able to supply you with high-quality wines, but at a reasonable price. Moreover, try to surprise yourself and opt for exotic wines which could be even better for your skin.  The bottle shops in Melbourne offer a great selection of local, national, international wine, at affordable prices. You will be able to experiment and create the perfect home-made white wine facial to help you skin look smooth and young.

The popularity of white wine facials is gaining wind, and its many features are being used in therapies all over the world. Though, if you feel like treatments are expensive, you can always make your own home-made variant, which could end up being even more fun to do. Though, remember to first practice home, and to find the right ingredients, to make something that will definitely help out your skin in the long run. Bear in mind to try and find a good year and a bottle of wine which will be good to drink, and for your facial mask.

SWITCH TO NATURAL AND ORGANIC MAKEUP

Switch to Natural and Organic Makeup

Research shows that those who wear lipsticks consume between 1,5 – 4 tubes in their lifetime!

That's a pretty terrifying fact if you think about the number of products smeared and smudged across your pout up until now. And it's not just your lips…

The human skin, which wraps and protects our precious bodies, has the impressive ability to absorb up to 60% of the products we use, which are then deposited into the circulatory system. Studies have revealed that an average woman will absorb 30lbs of the ingredients in her moisturisers over 60 years! So, then, does it not make much more sense (and for a far healthier alternative) to be absorbing all-natural essential oils, plant oils, mineral pigments and waxes, as opposed to ingesting petroleum by-products and synthetic chemicals?

It's time to make the switch to Organic Makeup.

WHAT ARE YOU USING?

We here at The Organic Project (TOP) find it difficult to believe that the cosmetic industry is actually getting away with the bad things they are putting into makeup. Allegedly, cosmetics are the least regulated industry under the FDA. Even that 'trusty' foundation on your shelf could be causing more problems than you realise!

All those irritations you experience – including acne, contact dermatitis, sensitive skin, inflammation, clogged pores and redness, to name some – are usually a result of man-made products. What's more, recent research suggests that some of the ingredients found in non-organic products (both cosmetics and personal care products) could be linked to cancer, Alzheimer's disease, allergies, birth defects and type II diabetes.

Most conventional cosmetics use petroleum-based ingredients, which rely on a number of harsh chemicals, such as aluminium and lead, for the production process. To add insult to injury, these toxic substances require extensive mining, meaning a lot of land is being destroyed and stripped of significant wildlife. By switching to Organic makeup, you will not only be protecting your bodies from harmful chemicals, which can actually be poisonous to the endocrine system, but also helping the environment and reducing your carbon footprint.

DON'T PANIC, USE ORGANIC

Australian organic and natural cosmetics

'Natural' ingredients are derived from natural sources with no synthetic compounds. Certified Organic makeup take things a step further and should contain only plant-sourced ingredients that are cultivated without the use of synthetic chemicals, toxins or pesticides. Evidence abounds for the healing powers of handmade, natural products, which are also much gentler on the skin. Your body is more likely to accept and understand ingredients from the earth, like calendula, sunflower, burdock etc. Makeup and skin care products with natural minerals also provide antioxidant protection, and their vitamin C levels have shown to provide natural sun-shielding benefits. Caring for your body includes skin care choices that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. As well as being chemical- and toxic-free, organic makeup and skin care products reduce dry, tired and dull-looking skin. Remember, beauty comes from within so make sure you are absorbing the right stuff.

HOW TO CHOOSE

To be 100% organic, a product must contain only organically produced ingredients (excluding salt and water). Stay away from mainstream cosmetic brands since most contain harmful substances that are known irritants and carcinogens. Some ingredients to avoid include aluminium, artificial colours, benzoates, formaldehydes, fragrances, parabens, petroleum, paraffin, sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate and more. Never trust a brand – if a cosmetic does not list its ingredients on the label, pop it back on the shelf!

Australian Bush Flower Essences - Love System - Body Love Essence Daily Moisturiser - Review

Picture
When I want to start my day with a rush of amazing bush flower botanicals to give my mind and skin a lift, this is what I use.   This Body Love Moisturiser is infused with select flower essences to help you feel loved, nurtured and accepted.  Flower essences have the ability to absorb into our psyche and deeper emotions.

Not only does this work on our mind, but this moisturiser is so silky soft and smooth, creamy and
velvety and is perfect for all skin types. I’ve been using it for about 4 months, lucky it lasts for a long time because it’s one of those creams that I don’t want to end and I want to buy more of.

I lather it all over my decollatege and face, I use it under make-up and before I go to bed at night.

The natural scents of all of the Australian bush flower products are so unique, each product is different and I really haven’t experienced any other products quite like these.   I can immerse myself in the Australian bush and imagine being surrounded by all of the native Australian flowers and wildlife.

Infused with the following carefully selected flower essences to help you with body acceptance -  Billy goat plum, five corners, flannel flower, little flannel flower, mulla mulla, she oak, wisteria.

These are such gentle products, but also very effective in treating lines and wrinkles and moisturising sun damaged and ageing skin.  They are certified organic, of such a high quality and very affordable.

Australian Bush Flower Essences has been developed and researched by Naturopath, Ian White, a fifth generation Australian herbalist.  Love System was created by Paul Loveday who spent 7 years developing this healing line of skincare.

Love System are winners of the Natural Health International Beauty Awards 2015, you can purchase the Body Love Moisuturiser at Australian Bush Flower Essences.

I received this product for a review. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
