A'kin, a well-known Australian natural and organic skincare and haircare brand, recently underwent a complete rebranding to reflect its commitment to sustainability and natural ingredients. The new branding features a fresh, modern look with a focus on clean lines, natural colours and botanical elements. Having been a fan of A'kin for the past 20 years, I was very excited to try the haircare in their new line, the effective and nourishing deep clean shampoo and conditioner. Such beautiful hair care products, still maintaining a naturally beautiful scent which I’ve always loved A’kin for, bursting with mood lifting aromatherapy properties. A'kin Deep Clean Shampoo is a paraben and sulfate-free shampoo that is designed to deeply cleanse and clarify hair. It is formulated with Australian Aniseed Myrtle, Bamboo Extract, and AHAs to remove dirt, oil and product buildup from the hair and scalp. The consistency is a clear gel, which lathers up nicely. The shampoo also helps to increase shine and reduce pollution buildup. Featuring a fresh natural fragrance of mandarin and ginger, this scent is exquisite. I can literally smell the lingering ginger freshness in my hair all day long.
A'kin Deep Clean Conditioner is a lightweight, nourishing formula designed to complement the A'kin Deep Clean Shampoo and provide deep conditioning for all hair types, including oily and greasy hair. It is formulated with Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Shea Butter to hydrate and nourish hair, while also helping to remove dirt, oil and product build up. Also containing the lush fragrances of ginger and mandarin. I've been using the A'kin Deep Clean Shampoo and Conditioner for a few weeks now and I'm really impressed with the results. My hair feels so clean and refreshed after I use them and I've noticed a significant reduction in oiliness. The conditioner is also very moisturizing (not heavy and oily), it leaves my hair feeling soft, manageable and tangle free. I would also like to add that I have used a number of other deep cleansing shampoos in the past, as I have very oily hair, but none of them have been as effective as A'kin Deep Clean Shampoo. I'm really happy with this product and I will definitely continue to use it in the future. It manages to deeply cleanse my hair without making it feel dry and damaged. It makes my hair feel soft, healthy and smooth, which is what I haven’t been able to find with other deep cleansing shampoos. None of them have been as nourishing to my hair as this and they don't leave me with an itchy scalp, as many others do. The changes A'kin have made to its product formulations have made them even more sustainable. The brand has eliminated all unnecessary ingredients and packaging, and it now uses only recycled or recyclable materials. A'kin is also committed to using only natural ingredients, and it has achieved certification from the Australian Certified Organic (ACO) organization. All of their shampoos and conditioners are sulphate and silicone free. This is by far the best natural shampoo I have tried and A'kin have worked their magic in formulising the effectiveness of their products combined with the amazing fragrances which always put me in a calmer and uplifted mood, what a great way to start the day. I'm really looking forward to trying their other shampoos and conditioners, especially the Daily Shine with geranium, cedarwood and patchouli! Available at A'kin and selected retailers. The beauty of your hair depends heavily on the quality of the components of the shampoo you use. Although the way your shampoo affects the shine and volume of your hair are extremely significant, it is the way that it affects the health and strength of your hair that is by far the most important. Many renowned shampoo suppliers pride themselves in providing the most efficient and healthy products. However, the only way to be sure that there are no harmful substances in your hair product is to use organic shampoo. Some of the harmful substances in shampoos Research has shown that there are many substances used in shampoos that create that perfect shine and volume, but are extremely harmful for your skin. For example, sodium and ammonium laureth sulfates are known cancer-causing ingredients. Once Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate were found in almost every shampoo. When concerns were raised over the ingredients’ toxicity level, a lot of companies switched to the ammonium versions, which is to a lesser degree harmful for your skin. Furthermore, polysorbates are a solvent or emulsifier that helps bind oil and water together and is often used to dissolve in oil additives. Although it’s predominantly found in conditioners, there are some shampoos that contain polysorbates. This substance often leaves a residue on the skin, disrupts the skin’s natural pH and emulsifies lipids in the natural protective barrier. Glycol is used as a solvent to incorporate products into a formula and is also considered to be a cancer-causing chemical. Amodimethicone is a silicone-based polymer used to seal in moisture. However, they act like silicons and seal the scalp, not allowing to breather, which could lead to thinning of the hair. These are just some of the harmful substances that lie hidden in every shampoo bottle. You have to be aware what you use and if you decide to buy a shampoo, carefully study which substances it is made from. Organic shampoo to the rescue One of the best and definitely the safest course of action when it comes to the health of your hair is to resort solely to using organic shampoo. This solution, although a bit unorthodox, can sometimes be the only way to ensure your hair and skin gets the adequate nourishment. There are two reasons against using organic shampoos and they are more local myths or urban legends that actual facts. There are two most prominent urban legends that prevent most people from using exclusively organic shampoos. The first one is based on the fact that many people believe that the word organic means that it costs more. Even if this were so, the truth is that you can never put a price tag on your own health and your own safety. The difference in price between a genuine organic shampoo and a regular one that you are most likely to buy in a store are actually not that big. This organic myth relates to other organic products as well. The second stereotype refers to the quality of organic shampoos. Most people are ready to believe that all harmful substances in most of the commercial shampoos are the price one pays in order for his or her hair to look good. This is again yet another urban legend. Organic shampoos are proven to be as good as, and in some cases even outperform regular hair products. If you also consider the fact that the organic shampoo is completely safe for your health, it’s clean which kind of shampoo you will use. Think twice! When buying a shampoo for your hair, think twice. Do you want your hair to soak up all the harmful substances and look nice for a while, but slowly destroy its natural balance? Organic shampoo is made from natural substances and it will make your hair both beautiful and healthy. At the picture below you can see the quality of my hair after using organic shampoo for just three months. All of my friends complimented how silky and soft it is. Believe me and try it out!
