Brisbane-based clothing label BeauTex Designs (BeauTex) has just announced an exciting new collection of sustainably sourced, bleach resistant, and ethically made workwear in collaboration with hair industry powerhouse Tabatha Coffey.
The Tabatha by BeauTex range is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles, turning would-be trash into a textile must-have. The sleek black fabric is bleach resistant and boasts stylish, gender-neutral designs durable enough to withstand the harsh chemicals for the modern urban worker. BeauTex founder, Brooke Jones, is actively and passionately changing the landscape of Australian textile design with conscious manufacturing by diverting everyday trash from ending up in landfill and oceans. “Once I started in textile design and manufacturing, I became aware of the serious environmental impact that clothing manufacturing has on the planet, and that drove my passion for setting about changing the process behind it,” Ms. Jones said. “Learning about the unbelievable amount of plastic waste combined with the end-of-life textile waste from workwear opened my eyes to what was going on, so I decided to offer a solution to the industry that tackled both.” “I wanted to have the greatest impact possible, and workwear was the way to do that by targeting an industry that mass produces textiles that are often overlooked, such as capes, aprons and promotional t-shirts.” Australian hairstylist, salon owner, coach, Master NLP Practitioner, certified hypnotherapist, and global brand ambassador for Matrix, Tabatha Coffey also saw and understood the need for such a necessary change in the fashion industry. With her creative passions and belief that sustainable living is the only way forward, a collaboration with BeauTex was a no-brainer for Ms. Coffey. “These clothes are designed with inspired distinction, blending creativity, comfort & boldness with sustainable living,” Ms. Coffey said. The 2021 capsule collection is designed to be gender-neutral with all body types in mind and encourages diversity, versatility, and inclusiveness with seven core styles, including a waterfall jacket, a hoodie dress, leggings, a round neck top, harem pants, a tunic blouse and a tie front shirt. It’s a range that can be mixed and matched and worn to the wearers own unique taste and style and will continue to release six new styles per year. The black recycled polyester fabric is made from 100 per cent RPET (repurposed plastic bottles) through a process whereby the RPET is flaked, pelletised and extruded into yarn and finally woven into a textile. The whole process is an incredibly sustainable option for solving plastic and textile waste as it eliminates the use of crude oil usually required to make virgin polyesters, saving up to 300,000 tonnes of emissions for every 100,000 capes converted to the BeauTex textile. “We are incredibly proud to say that the Tabatha by BeauTex range has diverted 180,122 bottles from landfill, saving 3,737kg of carbon emissions which is equal to 470,113 smartphone charges. It’s a massive achievement.” Ms. Jones said. In addition, BeauTex also only uses OEKO-TEX approved dyes which are 3rd party tested to ensure no toxins are released into the environment and waterways during the dying process. BeauTex is also Global Recycling Standards certified and are a proud member of Sedex, an ethical trade membership organisation that helps businesses maintain responsible practices and sourcing. Throughout all of their innovation regarding how the BeauTex textile is made, quality and durability have always been a top priority for Ms. Jones. The four-way stretch technically woven polyester built to the highest durability standard with moisture-wicking technology included. Each piece of the collection has been tested for the highest grade of anti-pilling standards whilst maintaining its bleach and hair resistant feature, making it easy to care for and long-lasting. As part of the BeauTex mission to support women and drive impactful change, $1 from the sale of each product in the Tabatha by BeauTex range will donate to Hair Aid, a non-profit organisation that works globally to make a difference and create change by teaching people living in critical poverty the skill of hair cutting. Working with the right people who understand and feel just as passionately about their vision for better manufacturing practices is an integral part of the BeauTex brand. As part of this mission, BeauTex also supports job creation for social enterprises by providing orders that help these organisations grow and provide further training, further education and better manufacturing practices for people and the planet.
