If you're pregnant, then getting stretch marks are one of those things that you just dread getting. They are unnatural looking lines that are created around your stomach while your baby grows. Luckily, there are things that you can do while you are pregnant to help prevent the stretch marks from forming at all! Many soon-to-be mothers may have heard about ways to reduce them after your child is born, but this guide is designed to prevent them completely, or at least, as much as possible. Let's take a look at five tips that you will want to know about to help you prevent unsightly stretch marks during your pregnancy.

Exfoliate Regularly

When you are with child, exfoliating your skin to remove the dead skin cells is just as important as rehydrating and moisturizing your skin. In fact, using a sugar scrub is actually a great way to prevent stretch marks from forming at all. Of course, you will need to make sure that the sugar scrub that you select is safe for your baby, but the good news is that there are plenty of ways to exfoliate without using unsafe products like dry brushing.

Stay Hydrated

You have always been told that you need to drink six to eight glasses of water a day, but did you know that when you are pregnant, your body needs at least two liters to function properly. When your skin is hydrated, it is more elastic, which means that your baby will be able to grow inside you without leaving those unsightly stretch marks behind. Remember, your baby is essentially living in a bubble of water inside your body, so you need to stay hydrated more now than ever.

Stretch Mark Creams

There are a number of stretch mark creams on the market, but one of the best options available to you is a DIY cream that is made from all natural ingredients that are designed to hydrate and rejuvenate your skin. It is a simple mixture that combines coconut oil, olive oil, and a little bit of beeswax. You can add in some rosehip seed oil or frankincense oil to add some scent and additional protection from the stretch marks. Once you combine the ingredients, all you need to do is heat them until the wax melts, and then let it cool before applying it to your skin. I have a whole guide on how to choose a stretch mark cream if you'd like to learn more!

Lots of Gelatin

Gelatin, or collagen, is one of the most important factors that make your skin elastic. So, if you want to improve the elasticity of your skin and prevent stretch marks from appearing on your body, then you need to eat more gravies, sauces, and soups. Some gelatin can be used as a thickening agent in your meals, so you have plenty of options. If you like stews, they are a great option, but if you'd prefer, you can simply drink some bone broth on a daily basis to give you the collagen that your body needs to prevent stretch marks from the inside.

Exercise

Exercise is a great way to help keep your skin's elasticity in check while you are pregnant. It also regulates the blood flow in your skin so that you can breathe easier as well, which is great for your baby and your skin because increased blood circulation is ideal for preventing stretch marks from appearing. If you exercise while you are pregnant, you will also control the amount of weight that you gain to some extent and a controlled gain is better for preventing stretch marks. All exercises are not safe to take part in when you are with child, so confirm that your regimen is safe with your doctor.

Wrapping Up

If you're pregnant, most likely stretch marks are on your mind. Fortunately, there are several ways that you can prevent stretch marks completely. To help you maintain your skin while you are pregnant, follow these tips:
  • Stay hydrated; pregnant women require more water.
  • Exfoliate regularly to revitalize your skin.
  • Moisturize your skin on a daily basis.
  • Create a stretch mark cream from oils and beeswax.
  • Up the number of vitamins that you are consuming.
  • Add Gelatin to your diet.
  • Exercise regularly.

Herbline Essentials Product Review - Stretch and Blemish Cream & Aloe vera and honey hydra-5 Gel

10/12/2013

I have been handed some wonderful and very unique products to review from
Herbline Essentials.  Inspired by 50 years of plant and mineral research, their beauty products are Ayurvedic, natural, organic and cruelty free.
All ingredients are sourced in the Himilayas, providing beauty and health benefits for the mind and body.
Ayurveda is an ancient science relating to health and life based on man’s relationship with nature and naturally occurring elements.
This is the first time I have tried ayurvedic natural beauty products and I am very impressed, once you try ayurveda you might become hooked too.

Stretch and Blemish Cream

If you suffer from blemishes, scars and stretch marks, then this should be the cream for you.   The cream softens and lightens damaged scar tissue and helps to regenerate new skin.

The first thing I noticed with this cream was the amazing scent.   The combination of the herbs used in this product has created a beautifully warm, earthy and spicy natural fragrance.

Once applied to my skin, it wasn't oily or heavy, which is good for oily/combination skin.

My problem is acne scars and hormonal acne.  After daily use of this cream, the redness from old scars was becoming visibly lighter.

I also used this cream on some old  stubborn scars from minor surgery and the cream relieved the itching and irritation I was experiencing almost instantly, helping the scars to heal.

The next test was stretch marks, although my stretch marks were older and quite faded, I did feel as though they were being smoothed out and the skin around that area was feeling very soft. Would also be good to use as a preventative measure for stretch marks, especially during pregnancy.

It's very hard to find a natural product which treats acne, scars and stretch marks all in one.   As any acne sufferer knows, dealing with the red scars left behind can be a nightmare, but this may give you the help you need, without having to resort to dangerous chemicals.

The ingredients listed here will give you an idea of the high quality herbs contained in this product and how the ingredients help to heal your skin. This is a product I will keep on using myself and I will recommend it to others.

Sunflower Oil – Nourishes

Papaya Enzymes - Supplies AHA

Sugar Cane Fruit acid - Natural peel

Vegetable Squalene – Lightens blemishes

Brahmi (Centella) extract - Rejuvenates the cells

Aloe vera and honey hydra-5 Gel

Hydra-5 Gel is a special therapy gel for deep rehydration without the additional use of any oils and waxes.

Good for normal/oily skin, the gel can also be used for after shaving, sunburn or any time you need a cooling deep hydration to your skin.

It contains a natural spf 11 and will protect skin from pollution, dirt and dryness.   The aloe vera detoxifies and shields the skin and the healing qualities of honey provides nutrition for the skin, hydration and anti-aging benefits.  This gel felt extremely soothing to my skin, I applied it to my face in the mornings for protection and in the evenings I applied it for the cooling and soothing feeling it gave me.   It was very beneficial after a day at the beach or getting wind burnt.  Aloe vera is one of my favourite ingredients in natural beauty products.

Applying the gel after leaving it in the fridge will help you relax and cool your skin almost immediately.

Made with two healing and pure ingredients for natural skin care,  this is a good alternative for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable with using oils on their skin.   Once you open the jar, you'll notice the scent is very light, the gel is an beautiful light aqua colour.

You can use this every day and not feel weighed down by heavy creams.   There's something I love about using a gel, the texture is so light, but nourishing at the same time.
